Wow did it get hot! July roared in with a serious heat wave followed by some equally serious rainstorms. Welcome to the summer! Just remember what you said in January and February about the cold. How many of you kept your word and aren't complaining about the heat? We hope you enjoy your summer vacations away from the stress of everyday work life.

Initial Hazardous Waste Reduction Plans (HWRPs), Biennial Updates (BUs) and Annual Status Reports (ASRs) are due no later than July 1, 2018 for the HWRP program. Facilities that generate 25 tons or more per year of certain hazardous wastes, or generators that hold a Part 373 permit, may be subject. Submittal instructions and other program requirements can be found on the HWRP website; HWRP guidance.
If you submit yearly and are unsure as to which document you are currently required to submit, please contact the EPA with your facility name and EPA ID #, and they will be happy to let you know.
What's new in 2018?
The EPA has added fillable pdf forms to their guidance webpage! You may optionally use these forms for your submittals. Please download the form to your PC prior to filling it out. The United States Environmental Protection Agency initiated their electronic hazardous waste manifest system effective June 30, 2018. EPA established a national system for tracking hazardous waste shipments electronically. This system, known as "e-Manifest," will modernize the nation's cradle-to-grave hazardous waste tracking process while saving valuable time, resources, and dollars for industry and states. EPA launched e-Manifest on June 30, 2018.
EPA established the e-Manifest system according to the Hazardous Waste Electronic Manifest Establishment Act, enacted into law on October 5, 2012. The "e-Manifest Act" authorizes the EPA to implement a national electronic manifest system and required that the costs of developing and operating the new e-Manifest system be recovered from user fees charged to those who use hazardous waste manifests to track off-site shipments of their wastes. In January 2018, EPA published its final methodology for setting user fees based on the costs of processing manifests.
By enabling the transition from a paper-intensive process to an electronic system, the EPA estimates e-Manifest will ultimately reduce the burden associated with preparing shipping manifests by between 300,000 and 700,000 hours, saving state and industry users $75-$90M annually.

The e-Manifest Listserv provides an open forum for the posting and discussion of news and information relating to the e-Manifest program. This Listserv can also be used to facilitate e-Manifest conversations amongst the stakeholder and user community.
Equity is teaming with CMC Workforce's Initial Construction Training program to train women and men to become highly qualified, skilled trades-people within the construction industry. CMC, a non-profit organization, helps guide individuals re-entering society, including Veterans, Homeless persons, Previously incarcerated persons, Non-traditional learners,and Underserved Populations to enter and advance in the construction industry via CMC's unique focused education and skills training programs.
Both Equity and CMC acknowledges as a core value the role of a sustainable, trained, and competent staff for task and jobsite safe actions. Faron Moser, CHST and OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer, successfully provided the 30-Hour OSHA Compliance for Construction Industry training as one component of CMC's training program. The individuals now have the knowledge and tools to recognize, evaluate, and control hazards found on construction sites.
Equity wants to congratulate all participants who successfully completed the 30-Hour OSHA Construction Industry course. Moving onto a new stage in life can be a challenging process. Equity wishes you all the best of luck in all of your future endeavors, you will be great!

Governor Cuomo has launched the largest artificial reef expansion in New York's history. This unprecedented commitment will enhance 12 artificial reef sites beginning with six this year at Fire Island, Hempstead, Moriches, Rockaway, Shinnecock, and Smithtown with many more in the years to come.
The reef program will be developed through a multi-state agency effort to use retired steel vessels from the Erie Canal, and demolition materials from the Tappan Zee Bridge and other transportation and infrastructure projects. Material and vessels have been cleaned of all contaminants and repurposed. Once the materials settle on the sea floor, the reef structure will begin to fill with various species of marine life and over time the structure will create a habitat very similar to a natural reef. The expectation is to see blackfish, black sea bass, scup, fluke, hake, and cod move in to check out the new structure. Lobsters and crabs also take up residence in our artificial reefs, and encrusting organisms like barnacles, sponges, anemones, corals, and mussels cling to and cover the material.
New York is leading the way and this new artificial reef program will increase marine populations and provide a boost to local economies and tourism.

Equity Environmental Engineering LLC once again supported the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) New Jersey Post's golf tournament. Peter Jaran, Vice President of the Post and Chairmen of the Small Business Council and John Vrabel participated in the fun. Equity was a Rockefeller sponsor for the tourney. The tournament raised $12,000 for educational scholarships for college students in STEM programs.
Equity is proud to introduce its newest employees, Robert Greene and Lucille Favale. Mr. Greene, a Planner, previously worked as an environmental planner for ICF on various NEPA projects, including the New Jersey Superstorm Sandy CDBG-DR review program, California Highspeed Rail EIS, and the NHTSA Corporate Average Fuel Economy EIS. Prior to ICF, he has worked as a project manager at Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst, and as a Town Planner for the Township of Cherry Hill. Mr. Greene graduated from Wilmington University with his MBA in May 2012, and from Virginia Tech in May 2008 with his B.A. in Urban Affairs and Planning. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, and Virginia Tech football.
Ms. Favale is working as a part-time administrative assistant. She retired from the Housing Authority of the County of Morris with 33 years of service as Deputy Executive Director. She was responsible for the rehabilitation and development of Housing Authority properties. She supervised maintenance and administrative staff. In addition, she was involved in the development of affordable for-sale housing under the Morris County Affordable Housing Corporation. Ms. Favale enjoys gardening and traveling.
