Vacuum Extraction System, Newark International Airport, New Jersey

Design and Operation of a Vacuum Extraction System

Equity was the Project Engineer for the design and operation of a vacuum extraction system to separate jet fuel from groundwater on the terminal side of Newark International Airport. Due to logistical consideration with airport operations this project had to be completed during the overnight hours.

Our engineers were tasked with developing a remedial system that would extract groundwater, treat it and reintroduce it back to the environment. Equity designed and oversaw the operations of a vacuum extraction system that consisted of vacuum trucks that were fitted with a manifold system to allow for the extraction from 5 wells simultaneously. In addition we design a treatment system consisted of a holding tank for total fluids, a diaphragm pump, an oil/water separator, a series of bag filters, a series of carbon vessels, and a product tank.
